Adam Johnson

Adam was born in Ashland, Kentucky.  He was raised by a single, full-time working mother and a loving grandmother.  Adam is the first attorney in his family, a proud descendant of steelworkers and a multi-generational Eastern Kentucky family.

Adam has been selected as a Kentucky SuperLawyer Rising Star, a designation rarely afforded to an attorney two years out of law school.  But this one has been pretty busy.

Adam has briefed, argued, and advocated at trial and appellate levels well beyond many lawyers' experience.  This is his chosen work, and a true point of Appalachian pride.

After graduating law school, Adam moved back home, practicing in Huntington, West Virginia for a defense firm.  A former clerk for Robyn before joining her practice as an associate, Adam missed representing workers in Appalachia in a myriad of disputes with their employers, including gender discrimination, race discrimination, age discrimination, disability discrimination, pay equity, and whistleblower retaliation.

While in law school, Adam was involved in cooperative business development throughout the Louisville area.  He worked closely with law school faculty on various legal and research projects to support cooperative growth.  This routinely took the form of creating resources to inform individuals about what cooperatives were and how they could be legally structured.

Recently, Adam helped organize a Start-Up weekend competition that supported new businesses, including several budding cooperatives.  He looks forward to continuing to support businesses that are truly attuned to their community’s needs.  Adam truly believes that cooperatives allow one of the most equitable relationships between work and the individual.

Adam earned his J.D. from University of Louisville in 2020, and his B.A. in English from Centre College in 2017.  Adam lives in Kentucky with his wife and two cats.  In his free time, Adam likes to read, cheer for the Reds, and tend to his numerous house plants.
