Law Office of Robyn Smith

Sarah “Cookie” McGeeney is a civil rights employment attorney at the Law Office of Robyn Smith, and is the Legal Team Lead and elected At Large VP of the Kentucky Tenant Union. At KTU, Sarah leads policy campaigns for a multiracial, multigenerational power organization made up of poor and working-class tenants dedicated to building political power. At KTU, Sarah has built a team of attorneys and legal methodology for power building and tenant organizing in the South.
As the child of a Lebanese Kentuckian and Irish American, and as a survivor, Sarah has dedicated her organizing work to building economic and political power so that the struggle for human rights is strategic, urgent, and effective.
As a nontraditional attorney with a previous career of non-profit and service work, Sarah started her legal path at a large corporate defense law firm, where she fostered her competitiveness to win. Sarah pivoted to practicing workers-side civil rights/employment law in a time of rapidly decreasing security for the working class. Determined to see the world change in her lifetime, Sarah is committed to playing offense, not defense, as an organized attorney in a collective struggle with a plan to win, not just survive.
